Nonsequitur: 47% Don’t Pay Taxes?

September 18, 2012

I don’t agree with all of his argument, but Mitt Romney was right about the 47% not paying taxes. According to the Tax Policy Center, in 2011, 46% paid no federal income tax and in 2009, 47% of income holders paid no federal income tax.  These were primarily low income or middle income earners who were eligible for tax credits, deductions and exemptions.

Will the majority of these vote for Obama to retain these tax breaks?  I doubt it.  They had these tax breaks under Bush as well.  Mitt needs to be more judicious in his characterizations, even if he is just trying to “scare up” campaign donations.
