Nonsequitur: Unemployment Unchanged, Underemployment Up

July 5, 2013

Unemployment was steady at 7.6%.  Long term unemployment was unchanged.  But persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) increased by 322,000 to 8.2 million in June.  This means 8.2 million Americans either had their hours cut, or took a part-time job because they couldn’t find a full-time one.  You can read the official report here.
