Nonsequitur: Who Is the Tea Party?

October 16, 2013

William Galston of the Wall Street Journal tries to answer this question, relying heavily on survey data from Stan Greenberg. Read the description of who makes up the Tea Party here.

Galston calls them “Jacksonian America,” fed up with a bloated government controlled by elitists who use regulations and taxes to maintain power. This Jacksonian group’s key tenets include self-reliance, individualism, loyalty and courage. To me, this sounds like what we used to call “Republican” during the Reagan years.
