Nonsequitur: No U.S. Forces in Iraq

June 13, 2014

Yesterday, President Obama confirmed the US position relative to the resurgence of armed militants in Iraq and the fall of Mosul.

“We will not be sending U.S. forces back into combat in Iraq but I have asked my national security team to prepare a range of other options that could help support Iraq’s security forces. And I’ll be reviewing those options in the days ahead” – President Obama, 6/13/14

Basically, without the US military presence gone, Iraq is descending into civil war (again). The Sunni militants are attacking in the north. The Kurds have taken control of Kirkuk. And the Shiite government is in the middle, trying to maintain power. So much for a “peaceful transition.”
