Nonsequitur: Slaughter in Iraq
August 13, 2014
As Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said yesterday: “The world is exploding all over.” Perhaps the most disturbing violence is in Iraq.
Since the withdrawal of US forces, the Islamic State (or ISIS) has begun a systematic campaign to kill or drive off Iraqi minorities (Christians, Yazidis, Shabaks, Turkmen). Thousands have been killed. Thousands have been driven from their homes. Hundreds of women and children have been kidnapped. So far, neither the Iraqi military nor US air strikes have been able to slow the advance of ISIS through Iraq. More details here.
